Watercolour is Francine’s favourite medium, in this course she will introduce you to the joy of this accessible medium. You’ll learn about the different types of watercolour paint • why the quality of paper will make a huge difference • how to choose your brushes • how to mix colours without them becoming ‘muddy’ • the three essential watercolour techniques • the secret to keeping your colours light and bright.
This introductory course will give you the confidence to join our Beginners Watercolour course, or to begin creating your own vibrant artwork. Groups are small - so that we can give personal feedback and answer questions. A video of each session will be made available for subscribed students.
BEGINNERS WATERCOLOUR

Learn to get the best from your watercolours – if you are a beginner you will benefit from having done the Absolute Beginners’ course. In Beginners’ Watercolours sessions you will learn the magic of colour mixing and how to incorporate your ‘accidents’ into your artwork. Francine will show how to paint leaves and flowers, trees, landscapes, skies, seascapes and buildings. You will learn how to use pen and ink, and how to use your sketchbook and paints outside. There will be tips on how to paint reflections, shiny surfaces and shadows. By the end you will have a portfolio of exciting and dynamic artwork. A video of each session will be made available for subscribed students.
What you’ll need for Watercolour classes
• A set of GOOD quality watercolours -pans or tubes
• A3 pad of COLD pressed watercolour paper
• Several (sizes 8, 10, 12, 14, 16) flat and round watercolour brushes. Synthetic sable is very good
• A flat white ceramic plate (not plastic) to mix colours
• Masking tape, kitchen towel
• Small bottle of black Indian Ink
• A couple of drawing pens – 0.3 and 0.6 or a dip-in pen
